Bioconnect New Capabilities
Molded Snap Leads Reinforce Correct Connection
Though color coding is the primary means of identifying snap leads, molded initials on the snaps are an additional way of verifying correct attachment. The easy–to-read letters C,RL,LL,RA,LA reinforce identification. Bioconnect, a U.S. manufacturer of products for the Medical and OEM marketplace, offers, as a custom application, injection molding in positive relief on its 3 and 5 lead shielded or unshielded snap assemblies. Santoprene® and vinyl are available in any color and can be coordinated with our standard 3 and 5 lead cables. Assemblies are sold in singles, sets, packs of 10 singles, packages of 5 and 10 sets and bundles of 100 singles.

Event Recorder Cable provides long-wear patient comfort
From the Bioconnect engineering team comes yet another innovative patient cable. Our new addition answers a need for a robust, yet very small profile cable to be used with today’s compact "Holter" type event recorders. Because the cable leads are attached to the patient and worn over a period of hours and days, this cable’s design must satisfy user’s comfort issues while insuring performance and reliable connectivity. This new five-lead cable features gold plated "no-touch" pins terminating color coded, shielded snap leads that are molded into a single, unitized Santoprene plug. This polarized, 6-pin plug is designed with a unique passive locking mechanism for positive retention. This allows easy, error-proof insertion and extraction while retaining signal connectivity. The ANSI/AAMI EC-53 1995 Standard for ECG Cables and Leadwires and IEC60601-1 requirements are met by this new design.
The mating connector for this new cable is also designed and manufactured by Bioconnect. It is a molded circuit board header housing gold-plated, caged jack contacts. This assembly is made to be affixed directly to a circuit board or can be mounted to the device enclosure.
Bioconnect products meet ANSI/AAMI EC53 specifications. All phases of manufacture from tool and mold design to product fabrication using precision solder, ultrasonic welding and insert molding techniques are performed in our San Diego production facility.

Lead Wires for Muscle Stimulation Applications
Bioconnect announces the availability of lead wires for muscle stimulation applications. The assemblies are manufactured with Thermal Plastic Rubber (TPR) jacketed wires, terminated with DIN spec. .080 inch diameter pins and high quality .080” female gold contact connectors. The pins are nickel plated with gold plating optional. The connectors and pins are over-molded with TPR for longer life and the ability to be cleaned in the field. TPR material exhibits patient friendly properties that include chemical resistance, flexibility, softness and is hypo-allergenic.
Bioconnect products meet ANSI/AAMI EC53 specifications. All phases of manufacture from tool and mold design to product fabrication using precision solder, ultrasonic welding and insert molding techniques are performed in our San Diego Production facility.

Touch Proof Lead Wire Set
Bioconnect introduces a touch proof lead set in a ribbon cable configuration. The lead set is used in bio-medical applications on EEG, EKG, stress analysis, sleep studies, and neo-natal system instruments. The assembly and contacts conform to the IEC-60601-1 and AAMI specifications. These lead sets are offered in an un-terminated option, however Bioconnect offers valued-added services to complete this assembly in a variety of styles per customer request.
The assembly is available in standard and custom versions. The standard configuration features a PVC over-molded socket with a 360 degree conical segmented strain relief. The pin conforms to the DIN 42-803 dimensional specifications. Standard products include 32, 16, 10, 6, and 4 conductor ribbon cable with standard 10 color coding.
Custom variations are available with wire type, jacket material and color manufactured to specification. The contacts are available in both stamped and high quality versions.

Complex Harnessing: 288-Lead Cable delivers input for cutting edge ECGI Technology
Electrocardiographic imaging (ECGI) technology is a new application recently addressed by the Bioconnect manufacturing team by their fabrication of a 288-lead cable array used to collect physiologic signals to be used in cardiac evaluation. The 288 sensors transfer signals to six amplifiers that are used to display complex waveforms that can be studied for potential correlation to existing or perceived cardiac conditions. This assembly is currently used in research settings where effects of medications on electro-physiology are also being studied.

Machine custom-designed for Bioconnect keeps prices Low
Bioconnect commissioned an automated wire cutting machine that ensures repeatable accuracy and speed. The Primo XLT was designed specifically for Bioconnect in Wisconsin by Schäffer Megomat for the purpose of cutting, trimming, and attaching sockets or pins to small diameter wire. The Wirestar software controls the entire operation once setup is completed. It will monitor wire length and cutting specifications while in operation and halt if an anomaly occurs. The slide collector tray holds the finished product until the run is completed. The precision of the machine allows parts to bypass three operations and head straight to the molding operation saving time and money. Capacity, depending on length, is around 3600 parts per hour opposed to 900 per hour using the old method. The capabilities and volume capacity of this machine allows it to forego numerous steps in the manufacturing process, yielding cost savings.
