Bioconnect New Products

Universal fit simplifies lead purchasing in the U.S.

AAMI Cable Leads

Due to repeated handling, patient monitoring leadwires wear out much faster than the cable they are attached to. This necessitates the consumption of large quantities of leads for a wide variety of equipment. Bioconnect’s replacement leads feature DIN overmolded DIN sockets that have a positive fit with any brand of AAMI approved cables. However, Bioconnect’s AAMI cable series is designed and manufactured specifically to maximize retention with their brand of leads.

Bioconnect’s uniquely designed strain reliefs provide added flexibility for enhanced durability. Leads are manufactured using Santoprene® brand latex-free thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), a material preferred for its resistance to most cleaning solvents found in the clinical setting. Bioconnect leads come in both snap and pinch configurations and are customizable for department identification, for instance, within a hospital.

Bioconnect is a division of RF Industries (NASDAQ RFIL) a leading supplier of connecting solutions provided through the operating divisions: RF Connectors, RF Cable Assembly, Aviel Electronics, RF Neulink, RadioMobile and OddCables.com.

Pinch Leads—Fastest, Safest for Patient Attachment, Detachment

Pinch Lead Set

Many medical environments and applications require shielded patient cables with low signal loss and ruggedized construction. Bioconnect’s unitized, shielded cable is molded, making the cable, yoke and leadwires a single molded unit, preventing accidental lead disconnection. The cable is available with 3- or 5-lead configurations with pinch grabber terminations in standard AHA colors. The pinch terminations are made with overmolded BeCu (Berilium Copper) spring contacts. The leadwires are double shielded to reduce induced (RF, EMI) and triboelectric noise. Bioconnect’s unitized patient cables are molded with Santoprene® (TPE) jackets, which are latex free, resistant to most cleaning solvents and may be sterilized using steam, Eto or gamma radiation. The assembly is available. The cables are also available with standard .156” medical snaps. Custom colors and custom machine connector terminations are available.

Santoprene Thermalplastics offer advantages for molded cable assemblies in medical applications

Shielded Cable

Bioconnect uses Santoprene as a primary molding material and outer insulation material in all of standard ECG products. Santoprene is a thermal plastic compound that is processed in much the same way as any type of plastic. The difference is that Santoprene possesses the same levels of flexibility and durability that are commonly found with natural rubber compounds. Santoprene is latex free and hypoallergenic to patients. It has a very soft, yet supple feel, resulting in a pleasant contact with the skin. It is abrasion resistant and does not get slippery when exposed to many fluids. Santoprene is also impervious to most solvents that would be commonly used in the hospital, clinic, and emergency medicine environments. The positive traits of Santoprene also make it a primary component in the fabrication of medical devices to be used in the home environment, such as event recorder cables and exercise and therapy equipment. The choice of Santoprene in the cable jacketing and overmolding materials creates a very solid bond between cables, yoke and flex relief. This increases the products life and helps eliminate places for contaminants and biologics to hide. Santoprene can also be sterilized using most common methods, including gamma radiation, steam and EtO. Santoprene is also easily recycled. After products made with Santoprene have seen better days, the same material can be reprocessed and molded into new products. This easily recycled substance helps eliminate unwanted items ending up in landfills.

Because of the many desirable characteristics of Santoprene, Bioconnect also promotes its use in most of its OEM products that have medical applications, along with automotive and household products.

Santoprene is a registered trademark of Advanced Elasomer Systems.
